Introduction to
Time Management
Examining contrasting perceptions of time and time management in a cross-cultural context
Introduction
As time allocation is experienced very differently across cultures, this can have a significant impact on student self- and project management. More specifically, the tendency for students from polychronic cultures to delay actions to the last minute can clash significantly with the monochronic scheduling typically imposed at international educational institutions, especially in terms of the completion of assigned coursework tasks.
Consequently, this professional development experience will introduce colleagues to contrasting cross-cultural perceptions of time allocation to help anticipate and manage any potential culture clash that can disrupt the educational performance of international students. The five themes covered on this course are:
Investigating the common causes of student time allocation challenges
Exploring the contrast between personal and cultural influences on time management
Examining cross-cultural differences in the concept of time and time allocation
Anticipating the common time management and allocation challenges experienced by international students
Teaching practical approaches to time allocation in relation to project and assignment planning
The Course Aim
To develop an understanding of the common challenges faced by students in relation to effective time allocation management in an international learning context
The Course Objective
By the end of this course, participants should be able to identify the common causes of time allocation and management challenges experienced by students when studying in an international context, then teach effective practical solutions to improve performance in relation to assigned tasks.

Evaluate common time and personal self-management challenges
Identify cross-cultural differences in the perception of time allocation
