Introduction to

Soft Skills

Learning how to select, prioritise, and present appropriate soft skills to potential employers

Introduction

One of the main reasons graduates are rejected during the initial job application stage is failing to tailor the documentation to specific company vacancies. Then, increasingly employers prioritise soft over hard skills during the selection process. Carefully selecting and emphasising appropriate soft skills is also essential to overcome automated screening technology.

Consequently, this course will guide students through the process of how to research target companies to identify key soft skill requirements, and then illustrate how to present these abilities in both the recruitment documentation and during job interviews. The five themes covered on this course are:

  • Evaluating the importance of soft skills in the graduate job recruitment process

  • Analysing how particular soft skills are applied in the work environment

  • Researching potential employer organisations to identify soft skill requirements

  • Explaining how to present appropriate soft skills during the initial application

  • Examining how to demonstrate soft skills during the job interview experience

The Course Aim

To enhance an ability to identify the soft skill requirements of graduate employer organisations, and then present appropriate abilities effectively during the recruitment process

The Course Objective

By the end of this course, students should be able to select appropriate graduate job vacancies in a sustainable travel to work area, identify key soft skills competencies require by the company to pass the automated screening process, and effectively manage the job interview experience.
