Introduction to

Time Management

Learning how to develop time allocation and management skills in a cross-cultural context

Introduction

There comes a time when students become aware that universities seem almost designed to distract them away from their studies due to the significant number of attractive social opportunities. Therefore, developing an ability to allocate time effectively is an essential practical personal management skill.

In addition, it is important to fully understand that the perception of time and the appropriate allocation of this resource differs significantly across cultures.

Consequently, this course will explore practical approaches to successful time allocation and management in an international learning context to enable students to avoid the stressful experience of attempting to complete assigned tasks at the last minute with the inevitable consequence of grade underachievement. The five themes covered on this course are:

  • Evaluating contrasting cross-cultural perceptions of time

  • Investigating the causes of last-minute working

  • Anticipating potential time management challenges

  • Exploring how to allocate time more effectively

  • Learning how to manage stress in an educational context

The Course Aim

To develop an understanding of the challenges of effective time allocation management in an international learning context

The Course Objective

By the end of this course, students should be able to identify the common causes of time allocation and management challenges when studying in an international context, then apply effective practical solutions to improve performance.
